This year at our AHS National Convention I was repeatedly approached by folks who wanted to tell me how much they appreciated the opportunity to purchase a smaller collection of new introductions and still enjoy a significant discount as if they had purchased a full collection. As much as we all love our daylilies, sometimes we just don’t have the space or the budget to commit to an entire collection every time we add new varieties. This year I feel it is more important than ever to provide such an offering, as very few of us remain unaffected by at least some aspect of the current economic challenge brought on by events of the past year.
Last year when I described to my mother my plans to offer such a collection based on my lasting impressions of her very own garden and the impact it has had for me through the years, she was very touched and took it very seriously. I think this has probably made my mother happier than almost anything I have ever done for her. Once again this year my mother has been growing and loving these new introductions in her garden and dutifully reporting her impressions so that I could select a wonderful combination of her favorites to delight even the most discerning collector at a very affordable price.
